Favorite 2-player games

What are your favorite 2-player video games? (Something that can be played on either two PCs or one XBOX/PS3/any other system)

Preferably co-op. Competitive is okay but it drastically reduces the chances of Chris and I playing it because competition between us usually devolves into one of us being pissed off at the other one :P

Gears of War (1 and 2)
Resident Evil 5
Borderlands
Eternal Sonata (this one is not so great co-op)
World of Warcraft
Warcraft III
Diablo II
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles
Rock Band
Super Mario Bros. Wii

I especially loved playing Gears of War, Diablo II and Resident Evil 5 together. (Borderlands was fun, but not as fun for some reason. I kind of hated the Borderlands split-screen, and I thought RE5 and Gears of War used the split screen a lot better) Well, and World of Warcraft, but I don't want to play another MMO.

I do love Super Mario Bros. Wii but I prefer it with more than 2 players, same w/ Rock Band :)

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is pretty good. Pretty sure you can 2player coop it. I've only played online with other people, but i think you can 2man local play it.

An ex-boyfriend and I had our first fight when we played our first head-to-head game, Dungeon Keeper. When it was clear to me that he was going to win, I quit the game. To me this was like someone resigning in chess or go, plus I didn't want the humiliation of being beaten thoroughly which would've gotten me even more pissed at him for winning, but to him I robbed him of watching his victory and any win video that might have shown at the end.

T$ and I like the Lego games. Once in a while we get pissed at each other due to my complete inability to do jumping puzzles (as in, I can't even use trampolines in the game b/c I can't even time the jumps on one right) or driving, but for the most part they're quite fun. (The solution to a puzzle one person can't get through is for that person to drop out and let the computer take over the second character until you get past that part.)

Mario Kart's another co-op game. It's not all that fun with just two players, but with four you get two teams of two each, and that rocks!

Yeah we definitely need to play some of the lego games. And X-men Legends actually. We have both!

my husband and I only played a little bit of Lego Star Wars (Ep1) but it had a really great co-op feel to it.

We love Tales of Vesperia, but I'm not sure if you will like it since you said you didn't think Eternal Sonata was too great as co-op. What about it didn't you like? And the only thing I don't really like about ToV co-op is that the camera follows player one in battle (which is free range) so player two's directional controls tend to be a little wonky. I really grew attached to Rita, though, who is a mage and can mostly stay in one place while casting spells.

The battle system for Eternal Sonata just seems like it would overall be more fun if one person is playing instead of two - where with two, sometimes you miss a block or a counterattack and having it be turn-based is kind of weird!

If Tales of Vesperia is more like Tales of Destiny with the battle system (where you get to be doing something most of the time) I think that would probably be a lot better!

Tales of Vesperia is action based and not turn based. It can get a little hectic at times, but overall it was fun and a really good game. It is pretty long, too, with all sorts of extra stuff to do at the end. You can also build up points so that after you beat the game, you can spend the points on attributes in a new game if you want to play through it again (things like 2x experience, carry over all your skills, etc etc).

Ohhh yay for not being turn based. That definitely will help XD I am not sure if we already own it or not (it is possible with the way we buy games and then don't play them) but I'll definitely include it :D

Double Dragon and Double Dragon II...for some reason 3 sucked, but ah well. TMNT: Turtles in Time of course.. Titan Quest!
