A weather system will be entering the State tomorrow morning. This storm
will start with light snow around 9 AM. The snow will steadily increase
until around 1 PM when it will start falling 1 or 2 inches per hour.
Visibility will be reduced to a quarter mile or less. The snow will continue
to fall at this rate until about 7 PM. The system should be out of the state
by 10 PM. Winds will be from the North East with gusts of 30 to 40 mph.
Total snowfall amounts will range from 7 to 14 inches. Boston is expected to
get around 9 inches, Worcester 11 inches Springfield 10 inches. There will
be some Ocean affect snow with this storm, which will adversely the coast
especially in the Plymouth County and Essex County areas where it can create
near blizzard conditions. This Ocean affect snow may also allow the snowfall
to continue along the coast into Saturday. Temperatures will also drop after
this storm into the teens. Sunday more snow is expected of about 1 to 3
inches, changing to rain in the afternoon and then temperatures dropping
again Sunday night into the single digits freezing the rain that had fallen.
Take great caution with this Friday storm. Ensure your car has gas; do not
travel into this storm if not necessary. If you must travel use public

Date: 2008-12-18 08:47 pm (UTC)My boss informed me today that if we aren't comfortable coming in, we are able to work from home so to just let her know. We also have someone here who will tell us to go home around noon (if we do come in) if it is looking bad.
I guess she heard that the conditions are prime to cause something very much like what happened last year, wtih the 8 hour drives home and whatnot. :(
That sucks so much for everyone who has lost power. I can't imagine being without power for so long!

Date: 2008-12-18 08:57 pm (UTC)There are shelters across Central Mass for people who are without power. Most heat systems require electricity to pump the fuel into the furnace and the water out.
...Goddamnit! UMass just declared they're closing, and my school still hasn't said anything.
