my class...
Dec. 14th, 2005 10:01 amSooooo yesterday was the last day of Information Design. I was very much looking forward to the evaluations :)
Guess what? They weren't the standard evaluations. She had written them up herself and they didn't have ANYTHING about the TEACHER on them. I can kind of sympathize with her, I think she obviously dreads the read evaluations that include anything about her on them because she knows she hasn't done nearly as much as she should have done this semester. I think if she knows what is good for her she's going to be an incredibly lenient grader. Otherwise she's going to have to deal with a whole lot of angry letters to the art department... I am going to write one anyway to complain because there is NO WAY it is fair to students to go an entire semester without giving them a single little grade... There were tons of crit-sessions earlier in the year too, where the students (and in some cases other people too) wrote down their comments about our work. But these comments were never given to the people who DID the work.
As far as I know, work doesn't usually get better without some indication of what to fix. That's why when a graphic designer is in the REAL world their final product often looks nothing like the stuff they first come up with. Because they show it to their client and their client hates something about it and wants it changed. Or wants something added. Or whatever. But the most "crit" we ever got were a couple of bad things about our stuff in the 30 seconds of classtime we rarely had when we were actually doing public in-class crits of the work (Rather than the written down stuff which would have been much more useful). Why make us spend ALL THAT TIME writing this crap down since our classmates will never see it??
The only suggestions I got for my final project when she saw it yesterday were mentioning that I should have left the numbers off in one part of my assignment. Yeah... I already said that. She went on about that for about two minutes. Nothing else really. Then I was done. Sigh...
The assignments were all pretty good. The class time was used horribly. We never got any grades. Ever. The class time was as long as it was because it normally filled up the time of a STUDIO class where we are supposed to WORK during it. We rarely got the chance to work, but at the same time ALSO rarely were even taught anything. There may have been 2 days in which we were actually taught something and I think I missed both of them. Not that it mattered because it wasn't anything new I would have learned anyway. I also need to write to her and see if she has be marked absent on the day of my brother's wedding, since that's an excused absence and I shouldn't have to deal with that (although I'm sure I am for some reason).
Anyway, the frustration of it should be over at least for now. Until grades come, then maybe I'll bring it up again >:| Which I hope I don't have to.
