So when my mom heard I wanted a companion cube cake she wanted us to have a more traditional cake too and offered to make it.

But is it bad that I want to ask her to make this?

LOLZ. And forget traditional cakes. I have to see if I can dig up a picture, but Jason's mom made us a Peeps cake for our main cake (complete with homemade Peeps topper) and for the groom's cake, she made it in the shape of a Sega Dreamcast. I think you should definitely get the Companion Cube and then yeah, ask her to make the chocolate one for the groom's cake, which is traditionally chocolate. :)
